Guy Miron (from Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies, Jerusalem) will give a lecture at CEU on Tuesday, February 8 at 6 p.m.
Jewish Regeneration under Siege: The Challenge of German Jewry in the 1930s
The lecture will deal with the ways German Jewry coped with the decline of its emancipation during the first years of the Nazi regime. From January 1933 until November 1938 most of German Jewry's pre-1933 organizations continued to be active and were even developed further. The activities of these political, social and cultural organizations will be discussed and analyzed within the wider framework of German-Jewish history, with a particular focus on questions of identity.
